Tropical Waterlilies

Tropical waterlilies are available in day and night blooming varieties.  Day bloomers open from late morning until mid afternoon.  Night bloomers open at dusk and remain open until late the next morning.  Each bloom lasts 3 to 4 days.

Viviparous: A viviparous waterlily reporduces by forming new plantlets in the center of their mature lily pad.

*Extremely fragrant

*Grow in zones 3 to 9 during the summer as annuals and are frost tender perennials that can survive winter in zones 10 to 11 or in a heated greenhouse in zones 3 to 9.

*Produce a spectacular array of blossoms often with exotic foliage

*Bloom throughout the summer, flowering twice as much as hardy waterlilies

*Plant in a container with topsoil, aquatic planting media or a mixture of both, top with a layer of pea gravel or if you have koi and/or fish over 8 inches use larger river stone

*Place in your pond or container garden with 6 to 12 inches of water over the soil

*To maximize blooming, fertilize regularly with lilytabs or annually with stake

*Size refers to surface coverage, Small: under 5 feet, Medium:  6 to 10 feet, Large: over 10 feet

*Most require full sun, 5 to 6 hours of direct sun per day, some tolerate partial sun: at least 3 hours direct sun per day and Margaret Mary will tolerate shade to full sun

*Predators: muskrat, nutria, crawfish, ducks, geese, swans, deer, cattle, fish over 8 inches, and turtles
